GM's key to survival will be making sure it offers something for everyone, and that's all there is to it. Even in its downsized state GM is in a better position than any other company to provide a balanced portfolio to its customers. GM lost a lot of people who care about cars when they went chasiing the Japanese and stopped offering anything fun or good looking in the volume segments. Chrysler shot itself in the foot when it killed a solid Camcord competitor (arguably the best looking and performing one at the time) and only offered the LX cars as its midsized sedan entries. Variety is key, because if GM doesn't offer customers what they want, they'll go to someone who does. Another point: being green and being pleasing to enthusiasts does not have to be mutually exclusive. There's no rule that says a Camaro can't have a smaller carbon footprint yet keep the formula that has made it so successful over the years. And there's nothing stopping them from making a "green" car like the Volt an engaging, fun to drive car.

Given their displacement, performance output, and curb weight of the cars they're put in, the current crop of V8s get excellent fuel economy. If the past is any indication, the V8 will evolve with the times, so I wouldn't be quick to discard it.

MSRP of a Camaro 1SS is $30,745. The article states that the Z will be a 8K premium over an SS. That brings the base price of a Z to $38,745. If you want to use the 2SS - a comparable Z would be $41,745.

Other than the cars you mentioned (which I probably would have listed anyway), what about an SSR?

Aren't those the same ones used on the GTO? I wonder if it's possible to fabricate a set of custom inserts.

I'm going to resist Twitter as long as I can. I don't understand the fascination/obsession with it. I have a Facebook page that does a lot more than Twitter and I can update that just as easily as I can update Twitter, so why would I need both?

Those are practically a staple in the southwest. 9/10 cars have them. People are either trying to prevent the dash form cracking, or are hiding an already cracked dash.

You can probably pick up a bottle of brush-on fabric glue at an arts and crafts store for a couple of bucks. I think that would work just fine. My sister uses this stuff called Modge Podge. Or, just spray a ton of the 3M stuff onto a piece of cardboard, and brush that onto the vinyl.

How does thre fill plug come out? Would saturating it in rust penetrant and letting it sit overnight buy you anything...you know, for next time :wink: I'm glad to hear it's running and driving. I'll go out on a limb and say it won't be long before you talk yourself out of the idea of flipping it.

S10s (and Blazers) are largely hit and miss when you're shopping used. If you can find one that's had its PM done regularly and was generally well taken care of in its youth, it'll last forever. If not, it'll nickel and dime you to death, and even so, they're pretty cheap to fix and the parts are almost always on the shelf. The 4.3 should be good for 20-23MPG highway. With all that said, if you can handle the extra heft and an (surprisingly slight) MPG penalty over the S10, a full-size Blazer/pickup is a damn near bulletproof solution.

How about an old 4cyl S10 or Ranger, or similar? I'm sure those can be had within your price range. When it comes to utility, you can't beat an open bed pickup. Times like these are a great time to have 68 around. How many cars has he bought for pennies on the pound?

Couldn't help but take pics of a rough but solid '66 El Camino for sale while at a rest stop on the way to the Grand Canyon. It was located at an antique gas station in Hackberry, AZ right on Route 66. I have some more old iron pics that I'll probably post in the lounge. I'm not sure how one would handle the "no title" thing - I thought pre-1973 cars had no title and only needed a bill of sale as proof of ownership. At least that is how it is in NYS.
