The New General Motors Company Launches Today
Lutz gave Pontiac the GTO, the G8, the Solstice, and a cleaned up G6 and Grand Prix. He also was on the side of GM that wanted a Pontiac Alpha and an return to all RWD. He did everything that GM would allow him to do to save Pontiac, but other factions within GM wouldn't have it and starved the brand to death. Pontiac's death is not his fault.

Of those, only the Solstice/Sky are fully Lutz' "fault", and I wouldnt be so quick to call them failues, either. G6 and STS were pretty far along when he arrived. Spot on about the 40mpg Malibu and the RWD sedan. Viva will replace Aveo in 2011 I believe. As for minivan, I'm not sure it's a good idea to enter a segment that's seen little to no growth, and noone but Chrysler and Honda have entries worthy of consideration. The money is better spent on CUVs, which GM is doing very well these days. Don't go singing the praises of the Fiesta or the Fiat just yet. Remember how much we wanted the Astra here when it first came out over there? How well was it received when it got here? Not very well. Ford took out a loan in 2006, and one of the stips was that they not take out another loan from anyone else. Yes, Ford's turnaround is remarkable, but let's not make more of it than what it is just because they didn't use gov't funds. They still used borrowed funds and drastically downsized their operations, which is exactly what GM did today.

Motor Trend: Buick Future Car Plans
I see what you're saying, Camino. I had long forgotten the LaX concept, though I think the Riviera concept captures a lot of the essence of the LaX in a more production-ready design. The LaX concept is transverse FWD, right? If so, it's got the proportions of a RWD car, so that in itself would be a thing to mimic on a production Buick.

See my above post. You replied while I was adding an extra comment that I think answers your question.

Motor Trend: Buick Future Car Plans
Exterior and interior styling that's bold and eye catching, but warmer and more sensuous than, say, Cadillac or BMW. Unrivaled comfort in the cabin Precision and refinement Plenty of power without being billed as a "performance" car Handling that's crisp but still plays second fiddle to comfort in ads Basically, I see Buick as GM's "sleeper" division. The new LaCrosse, Riviera concept, the Enclave, and the Velite (which is still a good looking car six years later) represent everything Buick needs to be. I'm not at all a fan of GM abandoning distinctly Buick designs in favor of rebadged Opels.

Are you serious? You're asking for Buick to be what it was in 1992. I'd rather every Buick dealership simultaneously explode. Buick's biggest problem, from the product end of things, is Caddy's apparent move downscale. Since Caddy has switched back to making FWD cars - "for better fuel economy" - there will inevitably be some overlap with Buick.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox in person
I sort of agree. The outside is really nothing special. Without the Chevy front end it could easily be mostaken for something Korean. Like it or not, the Terrain is a lot more distinctive. Still, I think the intended market won't care about the Equinox's anonymous styling and I expect it to do well provided GM markets it.

I'm bbbbaaaaccckkkk!!!
+1. Now go get that G8, or Sierra you've been pining for

2010 Chevrolet Colorado
If you're not gonna go for the V8, would you consider going used? I ask because Colorado resale values aren't that great, and you could save yourself a few thousand.

What to you is the worst thing about being a GM fan?
Trying in vain to convince people that GM produces cars that are every bit as reliable, well-built, efficient, and desirable as anything from Asia or Europe, and then hearing news about GM doing dumb things like canning all Zeta cars, closing Pontiac, and building front-drive Caddies.

Eat some Mexican food, and when the time is right, go into the Port-a-Potty and let out the nastiest crap you possibly can. Problem solved.

What's your favorite military plane or jet?
F-14 Tomcat - how could a Long Island native not like the best Grumman product, ever YF-22 Raptor - prood that applying Art & Science to an airplane works pretty well B-52 bomber - just for its sheer size, and the fact that it's been around forever

I shouldn't even be considering this...
Are they the same across the GMT-400 line, or do the shorty SUVs have their own specific unit?

it actually doesn't look that bad from that pic. How are the typical El camino rust areas?

Carlisle
I think it's hot, too. It actually looks like it could be a black cherry pearl color, not unlike the color Chrysler used on the early LH cars. You can see that where the sun hits it on the right fender, it's purple.

I gotta get my butt to the GM Nats one of these years. I had three things potentially planned for today, and doing a charity 65 mile ride for diabetes research won out. And I'm extremely jealous of you for sitting in a running SS Camaro, much less driving one.

I Regret to Inform You
I know the Conties that come with base Cobalts are garbage. My car has the 16" wheels with the Michelins, and I can fling it around 90* turns at 45mph with nary a peep from the tires. When GEICO rented me a base Cobalt while mine was in the body shop, I spun it around trying to do the same maneuver. The road noise couldn't be drowned out by the radio, and traction was nonexistant in the rain. Spend the dough on better tires. You won't regret it.
