Howes: China IS COMING and why Detroit should be worried
Detroit shouldn't be worried. Just saying "Chinese car" aloud makes me wary of any vehicles coming from them.

GM and the Nazis
Not to mention that GM's factories in Germany were seized when the war started. They had no control over what was going on in those plants.

F-ing media
So the domestics have like two thirds of the votes on that survey right now. If only their marketshare was such...

CONCEPT: Chevrolet Volt
Wow. GM's going to steal the show this year at NAIAS, that's for sure.

Prepare for the Worst-Expect the Worst
I'm not seeing where its fair that only the unionized workers should have to face benefit cuts. Everyone working for that company should be responsible for helping the company back on its feet. And it would be nice to see the executives cut back on their big extravagent bonuses too. Maybe even cut back a little on their salaries (The only executive that had the balls to do that was Wagoner and that's peanuts to the dollar a year Iacocca took when he was helping Chrysler back up)...if anything it would be a show of good faith to the workers.

Prepare for the Worst-Expect the Worst
Call me crazy, but I think the talks would go better if GM made EVERYONE in the company take some concessions on benefits and whatnot, not just the unionized workers.

Has the phase out of Oldsmobile changed your views of GM
Killing off Oldsmobile kind of thew GM's product core out of whack. Having to plug the hole with Saturn still feels awkward, regardless of how great the cars are, and it will be a long time before Saturn achieves the kind of entry-level luxury image that Oldsmobile had (although, let's hope Saturn doesn't suffer from the "old person's car" perception like Olds did).

Lexus LS 600h L Launch Edition Debuts with Neiman Marcus
Other than breaking ground being the first vehicle with LED headlights, there's nothing exceptionally special about it to me.

Acadia is INCREDIBLE!
Its nice to finally know that the Lambdas really are a big step in the right direction from GM.

Lincoln MKR Concept
AxelTheRed replied to BB_454's post in a topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)Oh Ford, you big tease. At least we can dream that FoMoCo will decide this is a production-worthy vehicle. Just once I'd like to see them not wuss out and actually SELL something this cool.

FIRST LOOK: DCX Minivans
Can someone explain to me why we're all complaining about these minivans being ugly/boring? What the hell were you expecting? They're minivans.

"Not quite right" 2006 CTS-V
That idiot drove a car that problematic a few HUNDRED MILES?!? This guy obviously had a serious agenda on his mind.

The Most Underappreciated Cars
We already had a thread for the most overrated cars, so I thought we should also have a thread for the very underrated or forgotten cars and companies thoughout history. Personally, its Pierce-Arrow that gets the gold star for the greatest forgotten US automotive treasure. The cars equaled the prestige of Rolls-Royce and Duesenberg and were popular with foreign royalty (the rulers of Japan, Persia, Saudi Arabia and Belgium owned Pierce-Arrows). But, like so many other car companies, it disappeared during the Depression.

Consumer Reports FJ Cruiser report
Yeah, I've only seen one. I was on the expressway, saw it and did a double take to make sure I wasn't imagining it.

Good or Bad?
Bashing Oldsmobile.

Chrysler/Chery Small Car Partnership All But Confirmed
Maybe Daimler-Benz is looking for another merger of equals...or as equal as a small, relatively new company can look against the world's fifth largest automaker.

Prius to get big brother with 2.5-3L engine
A big reason Toyota can count on that many sales is because so many people up in the northern US don't understand that hybrids really aren't built for this kind of climate.

2008 Dodge Viper SRT10
I like the Viper...but it could've been upgraded more.

Consumer Reports FJ Cruiser report
Never argued that they're not recognizable to people who remember the original, but MORE people recognize the styling cues from the Challenger, or better yet, the Camaro concept or the PT cruiser...and even more so in the VW Beetle...hence why those cars have been in the limelight and the FJ Cruiser really hasn't been. Its just that more people don't recognize it...it doesn't hold nearly the same symbolic value as the others. That's all I really tried to get across.
-
Consumer Reports FJ Cruiser report
Not what I meant. Americans like the Detroit retro because its recognizable. Toyota coming out with retro styled vehicles isn't and won't draw the attention like, say, the Challenger concept did.
-
I'm such a f***ing dumbass
Freaking OUCH, dude.
-
Consumer Reports FJ Cruiser report
I think the funniest thing about the FJ Cruiser is that Toyota seems to have jumped on the retro-styling bandwagon with it without realizing that the only retro-styling people in America actually give a crap about comes from Detroit.
