Best and Worst Used Cars
We own two cars on the list, a Safari van which is on the worst list and a Scion xB which is on the best list. Safari is 11 years old and way past 100k miles, Scion is an 05 and going to go past 100k in the next few months... Both have been reliable, decent cars. We have a guy we just hired with an Astro work van as a daily, 374,000 miles on it on the original drivetrain pretty much trouble free (transmission rebuild at 288k miles). If an Astro/Safari van can run 400k, maybe the Scion will run 800K because CR is the God of all things automotive and being Toyota the Scion is obviously SUCH a better car.... These articles have no basis in reality. Chris

We've all read O. C.'s "So my boyfriend is moving in ..." thread
...and last thought here for a minute, since perhaps sex is more available to gay men is it perhaps tougher to remain "faithful" if your gay? Not meaning to offend anyone with this, but it would seem that temptation would be more "available" Chris

Never have, but not sure that Wife would like the fact that I look at a nekkid female on the interweb from time to time. Actually not even a big fan of porn per se, but like the occasional "artistic nude female form", esp. if it is black and white. But that is as far as it goes, I really don't even fantazize about sleeping with other women than Kim. Chris

March 2008 Sales: Mazda North American Operations
Not impressed with Mazda's Suv's, Ford Escape would be the way to go (or freestyle) If you wanted a Mazda/Ford SUv. Chris

BV's Junk Yard / Car Lot
Hey, BV, when I took some copper wire to Ace Iron and Metal the price of Scrap Hulks (junk cars) was $235 a ton! Your rich and you just don't know it yet. Methinks the scrap yard is your friend for this Fine Feathered Ford... Chris

March 2008 Sales: Mazda North American Operations
rx-8 makes a good track day or auto-x car but would just suck as a daily in some ways. Rotaries burn lots and lots O' fuel. Chris

Need Some Suggestions
Pennies on the dollar is how I have managed to raise 5 kids, enjoy classic cars, and buy lots of cool other stuff. Chris

Ditto on the Mustang/Nova thing. The biggest thing I don't like about driving a Nova daily is that decent ones are getting hard to find and bad things happen to cars left unattended in public parking lots. His Nova is too much car to risk. Fox body Mustang? Hell yes, put it in a parking lot in crack heaven, run it around an SCCA/Nasa racetrack at 130 miles an hour, cannabalize it to build a Cobra replica...but the Nova...that's automotive art dude. That Nova needs to be pampered and preserved, period. Just my two cents, and yes I'll still respect you in the AM when we diagree... Chris

WE CAN'T WAIT TILL NOVEMBER
And as for the price of oil, given the vallue of the dollar, the rise in demand in India and China, our inability to conserve and cut back, and the fact that we are burning tons of the stuff in a mindless war in the middle east... expect about $5.50 per gallon by the end of that next 4 year term. Getting back to cars, all of this really makes me sad. There is a wicked silver 70 Nova cruising around Grove City Ohio here and I am again in automotive lust. (forget internet porn, who needs sex when you have cars?) But I really can't justify a ground pounding big block right now. But Oh my Freaking God how I want one... Chris

WE CAN'T WAIT TILL NOVEMBER
This is pretty much my thinking also for what it is worth. Clinton has the brains, Obama has the public speaking ability, and McCain has the experience but none of them thrill me. I will pretty much be voting for Obama in the hopes that exactly that will happen, a 4 year time out. Chris

A thousand dollars can buy a reliable car. I work construction (I am an electrical foreman) so I buy cheap cars because parking cars on construction sites is hard on them. Once I came out to find my Chrysler Concorde had gone from Teal to Black because the painting crew had forgotten to ask me to move my car before they painted the building. Other "fun" things have happened. My current beater is a 91 Mazda MX-6 (Basically a rebadged Ford Probe) that I justify on about three counts... About a grand to buy it, get it safe, and get it registered. American Made by Ford on a American Assembly line. Manual shift and it gets 33-35 if I don't drive like I'm retarded. A friend has a really decent Fort Contour you might like, it's one owner, needs a fender and a little bit of (minor) body work. It has about 110k on it and the interior is spotless. Contour was a decent driving car and this thing has been taken care of. A grand can go far if your careful. But enjoy prom also. I drove my 70 Chevelle to mine (back in 83!). Nothing like driving a classic Chevy to a prom. At least do that with your Nova. ...or if you decide to get rid of the Nova I have a nice warm garage in Ohio where it can come live under a warm car cover. Sixty 8 is right, you should be proud of that ride. Chris
