Showers don't just bring May flowers...
The 50's cars seem to be "out of context" for a lot of people. When I had my old Chevy's (my 55 2 door and my 71 chevelle) People at car shows would fall all over themselves to look at the 71, and barely noticed the 55. The car I really want more than anything else right now is a 58-62 Corvette. I would love to buy one and just preserve it forever. Several knowledgeable people in the Corvette hobby have told me just to wait a few years, everyone into C1 vettes is older than dirt and there will be some real bargains if I just wait a little bit. Which is what I am going to ahve to do beacause I really can't throw down 40k right now for the car I'd really like in the driveway. Also, a 69 Mach 1 was the car that I passed on to buy the 55. Another damned car I wish that I had right now. Glad to see, mr moltar, that someone else here loves Mustangs. Chris

Holy $h! I miss these cars. I saw a nice 72 or so Blue and white Impala, clean. I want it to be 1982 again so these things are everywhere, dammit! Chris

That shop I posted about earlier, the one that seems to be converting and endless stream of GM cars into rolling Donkmobiles... Drove by the other day and outside was a 55 Bel-Air two door hardtop getting ready to be fitted with the same sort of thing... Chris

As for the rust, you might try P.O.R. 15, which is used in auto resto. You can paint over rust and it sticks really well, seals out moisture. A few evenings on your back underneath the truck might save you some grief later. Also, make sure you like it as you might not be able to kill it. My brother in law has a maroon one like it, he bought it new and now it has almost 400,000 miles on it and it just won't die, still runs perfectly. Again, good luck! Chris

This would be a good little truck. You might also consider a Wrangler, I thought of you the other day when I saw one on a car lot down the street. It was a really nice 95 4 cyl auto Wrangler, clean enough that I thought about buying it for my 17 Y.O. Daughter, $4500 which might be more than you want to spend. But good luck and keep us posted. What are *you* doing with your $600?
Damn, Italian sounds good too. Too bad there are so FEW good Italian resteraunts here in Columbus. It's a 45 minute drive to one up north or a 45 minute drive to one out east for me. Jealous that your at another car show... Chris

What would YOU do?
Actually, both first and second gen Neons were great cars. My only complaint about them is that 99.7% of them are Autotrajic trannys. Almost, Almost, Almost bought a first gen Neon ACR that was a Chrysler prototype/pre production car that had made it into private hands somehow. But yeah, Dollar for Dollar great cars. Chris

Books -1984 and others
I'm glad other people here like to read, I thought maybe I was the only one. I do want to re-read Gullivers travells. Read it as a boy and loved it. Right now I am reading Bleachers by John Grisham and Monkeytown, a novel about the Scopes trials. Chris

Even my republican friends think that he is a complete utter MORON. How we elected this dixie cup for TWO terms is beyond me. That being said, I'm going to be paying off a few of my sons medical bills. God I can't wait until Bush is out of office. Chris

Is This Going on in Your Area?
Depends, I live in Columbus, own a 91 mazda MX-6, 97 GMC Safari, 05 Scion xB. All of them have been on the road in Ohio there whole life and none of them have any outer body or frame rust. Toyota simply screwed the pooch on this one. chris

What would YOU do?
...and actually I think you are right about the J-Body Cavaliers devolving over time. My wife and I had an 85 Cavalier when we were first married, two door type ten coupe. 43.5 mp.g. once on a trip, thing was one of the best running carsa I'vce ever owned. Like my old RWD Cutlass, I STILL miss that car. Chris

What would YOU do?
M30, Sir. The Cavalier isn't worth fixing up...IMHO. Unless by Solid you mean no rust, in which case I would say go for it if only to flip it for some cash. But seriously, M30. You won't go wrong. Chris

I Can't Take It Anymore!
Actually best dashboards.... Really liked 60's Pontiacs better. Much nicer IMHO. Also liked the "dual cockpit" of the old Mustangs and C-2 Corvettes. Those were sexy. ...but Chrysler had some great dashboards also. Chris

Car parodies of motivational posters
Actually I own one of each...Toyota it is rumored copied the Astro-Van for the xB. Apparently the Astro van is a popular vehicle in Japan, and supposedly Toyota had an Astro in the design studio when they penned the xB. Don't know if this is true, but the resemblence is uncanny. Chris BTW, Funny thread guys, thanks!
