Neat Old Picture
Just Browsing Flickr, I found this picture of Calgary in the early 1950s and it's in color, so I thought I'd share it... Incidentally, one of the billboards at the foot of the bridge, has an 88 and 98 on it... Could that be an OLDSMOBILE ad ?

He says the engine has calmed down recently and is not doing this as much at all so god only knows what was wrong with it... but for now the Olds lives.

Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
Good Point, and if that becomes the case, price being left out of the Picture, Buick will likely be the one getting business from me.

(GASP) Mopar guy likely to be getting a Malibu Maxx
I've got a 2006 Maxx with the LX9, transmission is the 4T45E which has been the 4A in almost all sub W-Body GM Efforts since about 1998 I think, so bulletproof tranny especially compared to the Caravan (eek). 3.5L Motor is strong, smooth and has a real nice sound- the 3.5 is built off the 3.4 but has solved alot of the problems such as the gasket leak issues that plagued the LA1 engine. Walt is right about the sunshades, but they can be fixed under warranty in about 1.5hrs if they don't work, so just be gentle with them and you won't have a problem there. The engine has great fuel economy, we get about 26MPG in 80/20 City/Hwy driving in ours. It's a great car, and I say go for it.

Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
Nonetheless, it could have a heavy MCE of sorts to support the a 6-Speed Auto, I hope.

UTT OHH, Zeta Platform in question
I know, I know. We need the Camaro, we need a Pontiac version with 1977 Firebird Retro Cues, we need an Impala that is a retro throwback to 1965 or 1966 (all these will sell dammit, RWD or not for the Impala), we need to move G8 Production to the good old USA or at Least Canada, this decision on the Impala at the end of the day has the possibility to make or break at least one division: Pontiac.

UTT OHH, Zeta Platform in question
Ya Know... At this point, I could really care less if Zeta happens or not... I mean FWD or RWD or even AWD I could care less. All I want is a BIG, AMERICAN, CAR. Is that so hard? I am really wary of talk of replacing the Impala with EPII or cutting it altogether, what does this do for me? Take Impala out of the picture. When I go to buy a car from GM, I'll have the following choices based on my own criteria: DTS Replacement, Lucerne Replacement, Regal. Hoping that the new Regal is a real Buick and not a warmed over Lexus that looks like a Buick, a relatively base model one will be in my grasp (I Hope). With the moving of Buick upmarket, There will not be anything to directly replace the Impala should it be discontinued. Just like the LeSabre, the Impala is a premium American family sedan, not a Near-Luxury or Luxury Car. If there is equivalent offering to the current Lucerne CX in the new large Buick sedan as a result of the move upmarket, than the Impala has to stay, because there is no more brand overlap, and it won't be splitting sales with the other similarly priced W-Bodies or the Lucerne CX, this increasing sales quite a bit methinks. Weather the NG Impala is a Zeta, a Modified-to-fit-a-6-Speed G-Body, or an EPII that somehow doesn't drive like a Malibu, it needs to be there.

Car shopping... For my uncle...
Yes they are... In a couple years when I buy my dad's I'll buy a 2007 Monte to go with it... Double the fun :AH-HA_wink:

Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
What he said. For EPII to be a suitable Impala replacement, and have me buy one... It's going to have to A) Not Ride Like A Malibu- The new Malibu rides nice but the Impala is much more well behaved and justifies the higher price. B) Wider with better, more supportive and well stuffed seats ala current Impala PS: Have they considered taking the G-Body and Modernizing I/E Longer Wheelbase and less overhangs?
