Detroit 2012: The 3 Engines Of ATS: Comments
Can't understand why they would put the 2.5L in there unless they are mating it to a 2-mode hybrid.

Detroit 2012: Hello Buick Encore: Comments
If you will recall right after bankruptcy they were going to sell the VUE as a rebadged Buick but Big Ed Whitacre scuttled the whole program. This is a clean-sheet design and it's smaller than the Vue/Antara/Captiva/whatever.

Detroit 2012: Hello Buick Encore: Comments
My understanding is that it is on Gamma II so perhaps it will eventually also be sold in Europe as a high-ground clearance Corsa or a new Mervia?

Why Do 'Worst Cars' Lists Always Suck?
If you look at the cars on that list and mentioned in this thread, my parents have owned three of them. Malibu Maxx Dustbuster Van Morris Marina and one that was damn close to one on the list (my dad had a 1973 Datsun 610 which was not too different than a B210 on the whole). They have also almost bought two others on the list. The list is flawed if the 1953 Corvette is on it, as if the Japanese didn't make crappier, less stylish, more underpowered cars in those days.

Printed media malaise makes my Major malfunction
Olds has a point here about freelancing, and it's not just applicable to journalism either. There's a lot of meat on the bone for consultants these days as many smaller to mid-size companies are phasing out certain in-house departments and hiring consultants when they are needed to cut back on overhead.

Cheers or Jeers: 12,000 Mile 1971 Cadillac DeVille Calais
I generally view 1972 to be the last year of "classic" Cadillac that I would consider.

Detroit 2012: The Return Of The Dart: Comments
I've driven a CVT in the current Altima and it's not something I would have a problem with driving as long as the reliability end held up.

A Chorus or Two
Ugh. Take ours, we've had it for over a month now and it's only 'polite' to let someone else have a turn.

Even older than the Dodge
What about some sort of unconventional cursive capital "T"?

Putting our money where our mouth is part 2
Nobody in my family has concrete plans to swap out their cars at this point in time although my mom is less happy with das Malibu and the issues we have had with it are well documented on this site (great design, bad follow-through). My folks want to take advantage of the real estate market in PHX in the next 18mos or so- the 'solution' to the Malibu issue is putting it down there and freeing my mom up to get herself a new car for up here. She has expressed interest something a bit more 'interesting' next time, namely a Camaro, Mustang, Sebring Limited Convertible or a Fiesta SES hatch. As for me, I still have my ear constantly to the ground for a tidy 94-96 LT1 Fleet at the right price, but in this neck of the woods they are few and far between in good condition. Ownership of one of these cars is a long-term goal, it's worth waiting to find one more or less how you want it. If that's this summer or four years from now- so be it. My 2007 Impala serves my day to day purposes well and has given me over 55k miles so far of unimpeachable service and I have no plans to get rid of it, period. Despite the bad rap it gets, it really is honest, dependable, and economical. My future car (and life) plans revolve around my university graduation in Fall 2012. Throughout my time in college, living at home, minimizing my spending, working full time during the summer and the occasional scholarship has enabled me to amass quite a nice nest egg. The idea is that not that long thereafter graduation I should be able to put 25% down on a mortgage and get a place of my own. It is at or around this point that I will be looking at a new car although I will probably keep the Impala around as by this point it's not going to be worth much, I really like it, and it's paid off, it will just be time for something different. So in fall 2013 I will be looking at the model year clear-outs to choose between one of these three cars and get myself a good deal. - Buick Verano w. Convenience Group - Chevy Cruze LTZ - Chevy Malibu LT Especially seeing as I'm looking at keeping the Impala I have no desire to have two big cars. Mainly concerned with something smaller and more economical that will last a long time and not give me a lot of trouble so I can feed my car hobby. That means something new(er) with a warranty that can be had well-equipped for under 27k MSRP, although I don't anticipate paying quite that much all told. I tend to prefer sedans

Cheers or Jeers: 3,800 Mile 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS
You could still get a carbureted Olds 307 up until 1990 in the B-Body wagons.

Cheers or Jeers: 27,000 Mile 1989 Buick Regal Limited
I have to admire the guy who is selling this rig, I follow his YouTube channel and he's always got all sorts of rare, clean older American cars for sale. Interesting stuff!

GM News: Detroit 2012: Five For General Motors
We won't be seeing the Corvette until NAIAS 2013 IIRC. Kinda disappointed we're not at least seeing a preview of the Impala as it's really dumb they've already made us wait seven years.

The Intrepid Project
Wow, DF. Glad to see you're still kicking around and continuing to improve that Intrepid. It's amazing the transformation of that car over the last few years. Pretty fun to follow the story and I would assume much more fun to do the work. Keep us posted.

Massive decrease in fuel economy
Maybe a different dealer as the guys I usually deal with came up empty. I was looking at the printout from the PCM reflashing the technicians left in the car for me at my request and noticed that the last time the PCM was re-flashed (for rough idle in December 2010), they appear to have installed software for a different variant of the LX9 engine that has a slightly different PCM (perhaps the U-Body variant of the LX9?). This was corrected as well when they flashed it with the right software (for sure) this last time. I was thinking to myself that maybe this was a contributing factor as well but seemingly it is not. Hopefully this is will be gotten to the bottom of sooner rather than later and not with a whole bunch of continued diagnosis fees etc...

Massive decrease in fuel economy
Locking gas cap experiment complete. Noticeable difference in Fuel Economy from before = None. #$@! Now I don't know what step two is.
