Rivian MSRP's see stratospheric jump
software engineers and IT folks keep the world working..without us, there would be only chaos...banks wouldn't work, airline reservation systems wouldn't work, cell phones wouldn't work, the internet wouldn't work, your truck wouldn't be drivable without the complex engine management software, etc... it would be the end of the modern world..dark ages.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG Announce Two All-Electric Performance Saloons, Is It The Best or Nothing?
That one picture, the seats look like molded plastic. Nasty gray interiors in several pics. Ick. The exterior is so bland, so poorly proportioned. Nothing imposing like an S-Class should be.

You are always posting old black and white photos of 50s cars and old dealerships, it certainly sounds like you have nostalgia for a world you never lived in.. As far as sales people, there are some good ones, I’ve worked with a few. But I’m general, sales is a profession full of sleazy, unethical people in my opinion. I don’t trust them. They are of little value when compared to people that actually produce something of value, like engineers, designers, etc..

Rivian MSRP's see stratospheric jump
There is plenty of examples out there about how bad car dealers are...no point in quoting. Sounds like your problem is you are looking at dealers with nostalgia for the 1950s... they aren't there to provide any benefit to buyers. I'm definitely pro-consumer, definitely not going to side with businesses.

You would have be awfully naive or simple-minded to assume most dealers have fair practices...yeah, maybe you got a good deal on one vehicle at one dealer that walks on water and everything is rainbows and unicorns in your view of them. So effing what? It's well known that dealers are still the scum of the earth and out to screw over buyers whenever possible. I don't see why you are taking the side of dealers unless you have a dog in the fight...

'Classic Charity Fund'...fake bullshit, probably all goes into the pocket of the shitbag dealership owner. GM needs to stop selling any inventory to such dealers...starve them of product, force them out of business....

Sounds like Rivian's financials are pretty shaky if they feel the need to make a move like this..or very overconfident.

I assume it is to protect the core company if the BEV venture fails.

I do remember at my first job in the late 90s in Colorado Springs the director of my department (a guy about 45 then) had a silver 1950 Packard 4dr w/ a straight 8...saw the engine once and rode in it, very smooth. It was a his grandfather's car, all original in very clean shape. His daily was a mid 90s Infiniti Q45 in silver also.

Fascinating to think that 61 years ago Chevy really only had three lines of cars--Corvette, Corvair, and full size. They have the same amount today--Corvette, Spark, Malibu..though I suspect the Spark and Malibu will be gone soon. Edit: I forgot about the Camaro...it's so invisible anymore. So they have 4 car lines currently.

I wonder if it will be $71k like the Bronco Raptor. (plus $20k dealer markup).

If you remove the brow ridge, that front end reminds me of where Buick went in '73 for the Century..

It's raining today...left it outside, maybe some of the mud will come off..going to run through a car wash tomorrow and try and get the mud and salt off. Still have several weeks of winter left. Alas, my weekends the next 6 months are probably going to have many trips to the farm..trying to clean up the mess my older brother left behind. I have no idea where the keys, titles, etc are to his dozen cars, trucks, SUVs and 1/2 dozen motorcycles are... and he pretty much destroyed the house that has been in my family for over 50 years. And he died presumably without a will, so that will be fun to sort out.

Interesting, but not very Cadillac style overall. I like Cadillacs with vertical taillights. For some randomness, I’ve been busy the last few days dealing w/ my brother’s passing and the mess he left of the family farm. I hate mud season on the farm. Snows, everything freezes. Then it warms up, everything melts into a slushy muddy mess. Then repeat. 4 trips down and back the last 4 days…(almost 200 miles round trip each). Going to be a lot of weekends coming going up and down I-77..

Your property taxes are low relative to valuation. My split level outside Cleveland I bought for $165k 5 years ago (currently valued around $260k) has property taxes around $5400/yr for 2022. My 130 acre family property out in the sticks has property taxes of $4500/yr, estimated value of $5-600k for the land…

Lincoln News: All-New Lincoln Zephyr with Connected Features Debuted at Auto Guangzhou End of 2021
Reuse, recycle... no one is going to want one of these modern appliances when they are 10 years old and buggy...it would be like trying to use a 10 yr old computer or cell phone...

mo' complexity, mo' problems. 3 year leases would be the way to go w/ modern appliances. Could you imagine dealing w/ a 2022 luxury car w/ all it's complexity when it's 15 years old w/ 150k miles?

The future of luxury is widescreen HDTV... which is fine at home. I like my big TVs. Not sure I want them in cars, though.

Just another appliance...rip off of Audi A7 profile and rear, crappy FWD proportions, 2.0 4cyl crud...nothing of significance.

I'm pretty sure GM is doing no further ICE development, so anything new would be a BE. Buick is just going to be premium appliance CUVs...they aren't going to be doing sedans or coupes, at least not for the US market. the modern Charger was of a different time and place...GM is all in on generic FWD-based CUVs, and moving to all BE....
