Buick did have a performance past, but that is long gone. They just have FWD-based CUVs now, nothing of significance. That past isn't coming back..

A not-so-great Valentine's Day..
I got bad news last night (phone calls after 9pm are never good) that my older brother had died at age 72. We had been estranged for years, esp. after our mother's death almost 6 years ago. He had a lot of issues in life, but I have to try and look at the positives--he got me into model cars 40+ years ago and got me into '60s rock music, Mustangs and '60s muscle cars. He could be a really unpleasant and difficult individual, but was still family. I'm sure he left no will, so now comes the messy aspects of cleaning up and clearing out the family farm (which I own 1/3 of), selling his car and motorcycle collection, cleaning up the property and selling it...

Industry News: Superbowl Auto Commercials
Keep in mind how poorly built Teslas are and how hard it is to get them repaired...also, they have a lot of crashes because the zombies that drive them assume 'auto pilot' too literally..

February 2022 Auto Spotting Thread
Haven't seen much of note this month, with the weeks of snowy weather and such. Did go to Dunkin this morning, and in the drive thru line there was a very clean dark blue WJ Grand Cherokee Laredo behind me, much the same as my old one...and a dark red WL Grand Cherokee Summit L in front of me...was like seeing my past, present and possible future all at the same time...

I'm sure the numbers are out there for the current 3-sec capable vehicles.

^ basically the Silverado EV styling adapted to an SUV...I like it. I like the slim lighting trend we are seeing w/ EVs, going away from massive bulging light clusters that became so common on so many vehicles over the last couple decades. And no huge grille.

Yeah, that's how YouTube works. It's about getting the clicks and ad dollars..the car is secondary, if it's an interesting story then more people will click... Pretty awful power to displacement ratio... stuff from the ancient world was as bad as cars from the 80s for that measurement...of course, there weren't high speed freeways then, it was about torque to get those beasts moving..that is some pretty spectacular art deco styling on that one-off..

Rather than that horrific rustbucket disaster, here is a really sharp '70 GTO in a neat color combo.. A gorgeous blue w/ a red interior. This article is from 2017, but I saw it pop up today on FB, I think it's for sale.. https://www.motortrend.com/features/color-combo-psychedelic-1970-pontiac-gto-judge-never-meant/

Yeah, IIRC Colorado is the same way. My '00 Jeep was about $500 the first year then declining after that (there and in Arizona). My '14 Jeep when I bought it as 3yr old CPO would have been $600 or so in AZ, but I got a 90 day tag and didn't register it there...registering it in Ohio has been a flat $65 or so every year since then. I did pay AZ sales tax on the purchase, though.

Yeah, I've been out and about 3 times over the last couple weeks, so the Jeep is grubby..maybe this weekend or next week wash it. Heavy rain changing to freezing rain to snow between tomorrow and Friday. Had about a foot or so from the first storm on MLK day 2 weeks ago, then maybe another 4-6 inches since then...today has been the first day above 40, so some melting...

After two weeks of snow and cold, it’s sunny and 46 today. Dragged a chair out in the driveway and enjoying the warmth, blue skies and sun before the next round of storms tomorrow…

Opinion: Kia Needs a Luxury Brand
Of the Genesis SUVs, I like the GV70...love the rear end. Of their sedans, the G90 looks like a comfy cruiser, though the G70 would probably be more fun.

I've driven over that bridge a few times when visiting the Burgh...last time about 6 years ago.. Seems pointless for such a low range, but if you are only doing 1/4 mile at a time, I guess that's ok.

What Are You Listening To?
I've done a fair bit with Docker, can get messy. Working w/ Docker and Terraform a fair bit on my current project, but also have a cloud engineer guy I hand off my prototypes to so they can be productionized. I'm mostly focused now on wrapping up some integration code w/ Graph QL, Postgres, and Constant Contact (their API isn't that well documented). With the snowy, gloomy weather outside, I've been listening to a lot of classic early 90s grunge, '80s-retro synthwave, '80s pop and rock..

The GM e-Crate is very interesting, I could imagine building a retro-modern Fleetwood Brougham land yacht--keep the classic styling, soft and quiet ride, cushy seats, upgrade the audio and add the e-Crate and modern brakes, etc. Now that is a Cadillac EV I'd drive...

Will Competition Destroy Tesla?
I have no interest in self-driving cars, or cars that talk to each other. Working in software for 25 years, I know just how buggy and easily hacked most software is...don't trust it to drive a 9000lb vehicle down the road...

Cadillac News: What is Your IQ on Cadillac Electric Vehicles?
I miss the traditional Cadillac names...alphanumerics are so boring, and the new 'iq' names are contrived. At least Chevy has a core set of names they have kept around for a long time and when they add new names, they usually are word names (though many are contrived).

GM News: MADE IN MICHIGAN - GM Proud Investing $7 Billion in Manufacturing
GM probably has internal designations for different sizes of Ultium-technology platforms under development...like in the olden days where they had A-body, B-body and C-body, etc for families of products of different size and spec. So instead of a variety of 6 cyl and V8 engines, manual and automatic transmissions, gas tanks, etc used with a set of shared BOF and unibody platforms, now they will have a set of electric motors and battery packs with a set of shared platforms. Different types of dirty bits, some of the same principles though.
