This is the same chassis (EPII) as the Next-Gen Opel Vectra, right? We've seen more of it (from the thread in the Opel forum:) That should give a better general idea of the dimensions of the Lacrosse/Allure/Regal, if not the actual sheetmetal itself. -RBB

I love the tagline on the G8 ad in this month's C&D: "Smart design. Stupid fast." EDIT - BTW, that's a great ad all the way around. Shows a slightly stylized G8 that looks positively sinister in black - best photo I've seen of the car so far. The photo car has 19" rubber wrapped around sexy new wheels I've not seen before, too. Score one for GM ad photography (for once...) -RBB

++ to TedRegarding the steering wheel - the Horizontal wooden "oval" with the metallic insert draws the eyes to the side, disguising the thickness of the 3 o' clock and 9 o' clock spokes. Likewise, the light tan inserts between the 3 and 6 o' clock and the 6 and 9 o' clock spokes make the 6 o' clock spoke appear thinner than it actually is. Both work together to make the airbag housing look much smaller. That's good design, folks, and I hope it makes it to one or more GM models unmolested. -RBB

Without reading through the rest of the thread... Looks good from the outside. This is what the new Caravan should have looked like. The interior, frankly, is awful. In the pre-production pictures, the fit and finish looks bad (particularly how the side vents line up with the IP "insert"). Hopefully production versions will line up better. I'm not a fan the design of the IP - I'm not digging it in photos at all. Maybe it will look better in person. The center console looks okay in the top-of-the-line version with NAV, but is crap-nasty on the base version - particularly the recepticle at the top of the console that crosses the cut line of the IP insert. More cut lines ≠ more quality. Will Chrysler or Jeep be getting vehicles based on this chassis? -RBB

I feel like I should like it - I quite like the new G35 - but the photos come leave me a bit cold. I'll need to wait for some less-photochopped pics (did someone at Nissan hire GM photo editors? ) before I make a decision. The rear shot reminds me a bit of the new WRX hatchback. -RBB

This exact thing used to happen to my first car - a 1985 Ford LTD. While flooring it (112 HP + 4K lbs + a short on-ramp is a bad combination) the accelerator would snag on the carpet and get stuck at WOT. The first time this happened to me , I didn't realize why it stuck and it freaked me out. Punching the accelerator repeatedly didn't free it, mashing the brakes didn't slow me enough, and I was closing in on slower traffic. It finally dawned on me to stick my foot under the accelerator and pry it up, which popped it free. Once I knew to expect that, it was no big deal to pop it loose if it stuck again, and a rubber floor mat fixed the problem permanently as soon as I identified why it was sticking. But I can certainly see how someone could panic and crash the first time it happens - you don't think always think about turning off the car (not the wisest choice anyway because you lose power assist on brakes and steering) or kicking it into neutral in the heat of the moment. -RBB

Thanks Siegen - I'd forgotten the IMA isn't a two-mode system. It's certainly a lot less "mild" than the GM system, though. And agreed re: the Accord diesel. -RBB
