Mother May I?
Unbelievable what I was beside in the usual traffic jam on the way home yesterday (for you Ontarians: westbound 401, just east of the 404/DVP) In order: Mercedes/McLaren SLR Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead (aka convertible) Bugatti Veyron Lamborghini Murcielago Here are some photos people took once they got where they were going: photos

Students Kicked Off Campus for Wearing American Flag Tees
I don't understand this.... If they were wearing t-shirts that disrespected the Mexican flag or Mexicans, then okay, I understand what the school's on about. The comparison to the 4th of July is apt - what would be wrong with a Mexican student wearing a Mexican flag on the 4th of July? Sure, they might get beat up, but is it the school's place to tell them that is wrong? No.

Border security isn't the problem
The Canadian border is not secure, especially in the West. One day, we'll have our rabid moose army ready. Then you yankees will see regret that decision....

6mm
Still have 6mm of brake pad left, according to the garage - they recommend replacement at 3mm. Having the rotors machined and a control arm bushing replaced (again) Hit 170,000 km last night.

Trim piece help
I busted the mounts on the little door trying to get it back together. I don't have good advice for you, other than to say don't do what I did. I bought some clear tape and velcro to make the thing work again.

F**K.
My brakes are finally starting to show some signs of wear now - the steering wheel shakes a bit under heavy braking. I need a Drive-Clean inspection anyways, so I'll just get a Goodwrench garage to look at it (since they have a brake special anyways). I'm just short of 170,000km now.

BREAKING NEWS IN CANADA
That's Albertan news, not Canadian news.

I think I've lost my GD mind.......
Amen to the power windows. One strange thing I've noticed with mine - the passenger side one is much slower than the driver's. It's getting ridiculous - slower as it gets older. It takes about 15 seconds to close now.

Failed American Cities
There is a rust belt mentality that bleeds through as well though. Maybe if you mixed a California and Ohio? That's probably the best comparison I can come up with for Ontarians.

LOL pics
Not a picture, but definitely funny. As you all probably know - most pop acts lipsync when performing live. They sing quietly into the mic anyways so that it looks real. The sound guy for a Miley Cyrus performance recorded what she actually sang and put it up on Youtube. It's pretty funny.

This may have been intentional.... there is a large temporary Canadian population in Florida in the winter!

Failed American Cities
They're putting in a $30 per ride express train to the main downtown train station, a 22-minute ride. The tracks need improvement to handle it. It will go right behind my house if built. Things may get noisy for me. Eventually the TTC will have a light rail line going to the airport. All our new lines will likely be light rail, I think the era of subways in Toronto is over.

Failed American Cities
In a lot of ways I found Chicago to be Toronto, turned 90 degrees counterclockwise. Seriously, three are a lot of apt comparisons. Central lakefront downtown, lousy transit, ethnically diverse, cold, semi-touristy... that's all I can think of for now. It really is the American city I can most see Toronto compared to.

This is Toronto's downtown Little Italy if you want to look around. Just like Manhattan's, it's not as purely Italian as it used to be. Google Street View

- Failed American Cities
I just bought a new home 4 months ago. House this time - was in a condo before. Moved from the downtown core (condo) to the inner suburbs (still well within the city of Toronto). Sold the ~600 sq ft condo for $205k. Bought the ~1500 sq ft house built in 1945 for $242k. Had to get some electrical work done (up the service from 60 amp to 100), but other than that everything was fine. The electrical work only had to be done because my house insurance insisted on it. It was hard enough to find one that was okay with knob and tube, so the upgrade was okay with me.- "My" ZR1

I feel like I'm on drugs. This part made me laugh: "I told you she doesn't have a dick!" "Too bad..."- "My" ZR1
That's my modded ZR1 in Forza, passing a Veyron. It was tough to do, had to outdrive him as he clearly still had me in terms of sheer car abilities. - Failed American Cities
