  1. f@#k that new car you wanted, talk the owner of this "ultimate light-duty hauling machine" out of his baby: http://www.loqu.com/bmw-m5-ute-conversion-.../barbara8i-2216

    Happy birthday dooode.
  3. This car predates Chevrolet's "Super Sport" moniker of 1961 but it's name is actually an acronym for "Super-Sport, Short Wheelbase" About three dozen were built, many of the lost over the years at the hands of race car drivers, yet more than twice that number exist today. more than half of them being replicas, some of the replicas using original parts. The most famous one of all is owned by someone who also owns a McLaren F1 & Bugatti Veyron. The brilliant engineer who designed it went on to found his OWN car company. The car in question has more LITERS of displacement than number of cylinders!
  4. Balthazar: Very cool. I didn;t remember that your '64 G.P. was your first car! I'm assuming you mean the very same one that is hibernating under a cover in bay No.3 of your garage? Lower those damn rear widows!!! Otherwise I like the car and the TestaRossa hood ornament.
  5. And another great point: Abuse of Police power... it's NOT just an L.A./N.Y.C. thing. The town Dodgefan's house borders with had a public outcry a few years back and it was found out there were MORE dirty cops on the payroll than the mostly-clean ones. And yet these lying, cheating scumbags are supposed to be "protecting us???"
  6. WMJ: The sedans just piss me off for blatant misuse of what was back then (in the 1970s) still a household lexicon. The "1976 LTD 2-door pillared hardtop" is not only NOT a hardtop but it's EPIC_FAIL since it's a two door car with not only a B-pillar but a bloody B, C & D-pillar!!! All I can think of is "I'll have a XXXL Thunder-TURD, hold the quality, with a side order of UGLY and some extra lame greenhouse for the little lady." And yet Renault STILL managed to one-up them in the ugly department with that.. thing. Sorry, not a fan. Actually it gives me a migraine just looking at it. Another GROSSLY erroneous myth! While it may be almost true for 40% of the "60 year old cars" you are referring to it's NOT even close to a generalization I would brand as mostly correct.
  7. I've "owned" (in some way/shape or form) 51 vehicles and I can honestly say I've never had one get that bad... I've bought a few $hitboxes but they were either winter beaters or bought for the deolition derby right from the get-go. Prob. the closest I got was my 1979 Ford Granada, which was purchased to be a beater for few months and then demo.derby car after. Yet somehow I managed to roast its Inline-6 by doing something as abusive as driving it at 65mph on the highway. Apparently the oil-pump went (clog?) because my dipstick was showing FULL while the top end of the motor was 99% oil-starved. That horrific P.O.S. was a great illustration of everything I dislike about many Fords, esp. from the mid-to-late 1970s. Suspension 101: Struts = Unibody Coil springs independent of shocks & vice-versa = B.O.F. Not an absolute but a good rule of thumb iMo. WRONG. The only F-body to be a real "hardtop" was the 1st gen. The 2nd, 3rd & 4th Gen. F-Bodys were all either technically "3-widow coupes", hatchback coupes, T-Tops, or convertibles. HARDTOP vs. T-Top the hardtop would win because a 1970s, 1980s or 1990s T-top anything can't touch the prices of a 1960s hardtop 1st gen. F-body.
  8. Every Huundai sale is a sale Toyopet & Hon-Duh do NOT get. So it's not all bad. I'm a fan of the new RWD Hyundai twins. Does the Genesis coupe qualify for a "retro" moniker since it's the first RWD hatchback since the '70s Hyundai Pony?
  9. Yeah... trading in your 15 mpg average SUV to get a Prius that MIGHT average 45 is pretty dumb when you're loosing your shirt on the trade-in value & even more money on the Toyota Prius' hefty sticker... At $4.59/gallon it was foolish, at $1.92/gal it's insane!
  10. The8 series is truly magnificent.
  11. Yeah... I had a neighbor with an Infiniti QX57 and I loved to joke with him and call it a Rambler... of course I had to explain myself in order for him to get the joke. Envoy XUV is another "reincarnation" on an idea that is now half a century old.
  12. "Moar Dog-Hedrum in yor wheel wells dan in a '99 Stang"
  13. Oldsmoboi: I both agree with many of your points and violently Disagree with others. If you see no problem with our worthless paper money & the FDIC than at least to a degree you're fooling yourself. :twocents:
  14. I think the production Volt is kind of "blah..." but graded on a curve set by this steaming pile of c**** t*** it gets an A+++.
  15. One of the few bright moments in 1990s GM history. Just as the G-body went out with a BANG in the late '80s... (GN/GNX) The B-body was struck down right after it transcended boundaries & shattered convention. Both the LT-1 Impala SS & Buick Grand National/T-Type were the definition of a paradigm shift. They created a niche market & monopolized if for a short time frame before GM threw it all away. The B-body's death was made worse
  16. Three things that I wish I had time/energy to research better: 1. NAFTA 2. The theoretical "AMERO" 3. probability of an EMP attack severly crippling the internet & related www "infrastructure"
  17. 1. The only reason why I strongly dislike 4-door sedans is their epidemic-level takeover of the market. 2. I just strongly dislike fat, obstructive pillars, if a 4-door hardtop was offered in say the G6 or CTS I would prob. prefer it over a coupe... 3. The lack of a station wagon or coupe in products like the 300C, Cadillac Sigma, Impala SS & the otherwise awesome G8 is a pricey mistake for GM & team USA.
  18. Awesome. The Toyopet Prius is a Nerd with B.O. & a pocket protector. This is a Renaissance man... The stance & profile are amazing. Full recharge in under 10 min? Amazing. Exactly.
  19. Croc: Your head is DEEP in the sand....
  20. Ones that got away: (almost, but not quite purchased) - 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 350sbc/th350 $2800 obo - 1963 Impala 2-door hardtop, 283/powerglide $2500 obo (both almost became my first classic before the '68 Camaro, both were nice drivers) but prob. the one I wish I had bought more than any other: 1938 Buick Special "barn find" $2500 obo --- I've never junked anything that was semi-safe to drive or within the realm of restoration. Naturally, as you guys know, I regret selling many of my past vehicles. short list: '68 Camaro hardtop '64 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday '83 Pontiac Firebird T-top '77 Cadillac Coupe deVille '84 Datsun Maxima (the 2nd one, w/sunroof) '86 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham....
  21. PCS: Thanks. I wish I had more time to pursue my love of Automotive photography. WMJ: 1st time ever seeing a '63 Dodge 880 hardtop-station wagon.
  22. I've been saying for years that we were on the verge of a massive erosion in the middle class here in the USA. Outsourcing has been a pebble in my shoe since I was old enough to understand the most basic ideas of Macro Economics. I was called paranoid, professors t my college would argue that the FDIC is your FRIEND, they're what is going to prevent another 1929 from ever happening.... and here we are in 2009, on the radio, TV, internet & newspapers the constant drumbeat is: "America is going through a permanent change... not for the better" but sadly most of you are still asleep. Balthy: Your analogy was apt, thanks.
  23. Balthazar: One thing I've never given much thought to... "exposed rocker panels" You do have a point... GM in the 1960s had some gorgeous detailing on rocker panels. 1st gen. F-body RS with the deluxe trim, 1965 Rivieras, my '64 Super 88, even a Chevy sedan could be had with a nice stainless steel trim package that included the rockers. WMJ: Fantastic choices. I love the '58 Rambler, it's the '58 Olds that's not my cup of tea.
  24. My 1991 S10 Blazer was a fantastic truck. Even the interior was nice... but eesp. pleasing was it's off road prowess, 5-speed manual & the 75% of a 350sbc under the hood. (4.3 liter V6) That being said I've driven a few late 1990s S10s and more than a few have felt disappointing. It seems (like with so many things) newer is NOT always better. The shift linkage, squeeks/rattles, interior quality & reliability seemed to go downhill with the 1993/1995 refresh.
