  1. Weight has been a main reason for the loss of efficiency. Infact in Car and Driver Csaba Csere had given that point. Increased weight means increased drag force to overcome and desptie of the engine technology progressing, the weight has practically counterbalanced the gains in fuel economy. Main weight cuprits are the airbags, bigger tires, electronics (a manual window is less heavier than one touch up and down window) plus cars are tending to grow bigger. If you look at the 1990 Accord EX for e.g. it weighed about 2900 lbs or roughly 300 pounds less than the 2007 Accord, about 150 lbs more than 2007 Civic. It gave 24/30 mpg compared to that 2007 Accord which gives 26/34. If you saddle up the current technology with that body weight I am sure it will end up being 30/40 or equivalent to 2007 civic which does give 30/38. Comparing 1990 Accord with 2007 Accord is like apples with oranges. Instead if you compare it with 2007 Civic, the dimensions and power to weight ratio are almost within each other. Thus there has been about a 20 percent gain fuel efficiency based on the advancement of technology, not bad. The only thing is if you want the efficiency you only have to lower your standards and go for a smaller car, which is dimensionally as big as the older "bigger" car, as my example shows. I love the ideas of ABS stability control, etc. But I have always argued the idea of Airbags, especially a bunch of them.
  2. You should have a sample space of atleast 50 engineers to justify that.

  4. I share the same thoughts about the Patriot. It is like a small vehicle with go anywhere capability a class of its own. Compass was actually meant to be an urban hip mobile mostly for chicks who like to sit tall. It was not in DCX plans to make it trail rated.
  5. It is the first vehicle to use the hybrid technology using the teaming with DCX and BMW
  6. I have always believed that it is the marketing department of GM which has gotten them into $h! by having no imagination. They just are elementary school graduates with no center theme or creativity.
  7. Hybrid was always a technological deadend. Only greenies bitches love it. Prius is a garbage.

  10. JWilly, the act of "opening" the hood is indeed like putting a razor knife on a sealed box. Shipping carriers respobsibility is to ship. It is the customs and US govenrment who are supposed to open those boxes if they think it is doubtful. The employee has done a criminal act here of trying to open the hood with out the permission of the owner, so it is just not civil anymore.
  11. TOY will probably go to rear drums when they recall vehicles for excessive break wear
  12. A good factual start followed by a big grandpa dump in the end.
  13. About 10-15 percent drop across the board. Smaller cars have been hit hard though. Prius got a serious whack in the city driving conditions.

  17. Hey Ocn. I called it the Trudra first. Read my previous posts when I posted its pictures naming it the Son of a Pig. Credit should go to me too. LOL
  18. After looking at the 5 best trucks for 2005. I was not a least bit surprised for C&D to choose the Silvy. Good job GM. Thanks CD for putting some of my faith back in you with this and the last issue when you compared the Z06 with the 911 GT2 and Exige and making Z06 a winner without having the Gotta Have It and Fun to Drive Factors on its side.
  19. The Voice has spoken. Bitches. That is ludicrous at one end they complain of not having enough products, not they decline it. That is oxymoronic.
  20. What I don't understand is how the F the guy did not open and see the barn before buying it? Will it not be logical? P.S. Those might be Saddam's lost cars
  21. Fly you forgot to add an S after it! :AH-HA_wink:

  23. You are right it is an IP based system. The part of it is not being close to the capacity but being "undercapacity". Both the providers are not able to gain the number of customers they were hoping to. It is like buying a baseball size field to play tic-tac-toe. I think XM has 5 geostationary satellites and sirius has 9 in turn. These relay signalls alternating so that no matter where you are in the country at least one has to be above you provided if you are not in a basement or a tunnel. The grainy-ness is usually caused when you are jumping through the satellites or are under high rise city buildings where they are putting booster antennaes to enhance the capacity or in a valley. Theorittically the way the systems are setup you cannot get loss of signal when you have decent signal even if you are operating at the maximum capacity. Absolutely! I think what it may trigger is the death of satellite radio if they increase price or anything. But at the same time it will open up competition for a smaller player with better ideas.
  24. I agree with you FOG. I always felt Ghosn was like a fart in the wind. His only advantage is that he is aggressive. That is it. He is not a visionary or thinks long term. He wanted GM for the amount of RD and its technology especially the 4x4 and flex fuel capability plus some pie from the hybrid mode system which GM was sharing with DC and BMW. As a matter of fact that can be another reason why GM does not want other manufacturer to buy Chyrsler considering the amount of money GM has invested with DC and BMW for the hybrid systems. That will be like a free pie to the new manufacturer.
