I think you'll find heavy agreement among the membership on many of your positions. If, they were presented in a different context than this thread. Even among some you refer to as apologists. Most here have a very critical view of past management practices at GM that allowed the current crisis environment to come about. However, the knee-jerk conditioning of much of the press to spew doom and gloom about GM no matter what, has most of us a bit ticked-off as well. This academiic, if he even exists, is hardly important by himself but any article with glaring inaccuracies is going to be ripped to shreds around here.
  14. My God! That's exactly what we did right down to the choice of restaurant. Too funny.
  15. Hope you both are having a good one.

Hey Enzl, You raise some valid points, but I sense a misunderstanding here. Are you looking at the abbreviation "BM" as "biased media"? I believe others are reading "BM" to mean "Buickman". Just thought I'd try to clear that up.

Good post,Regal. Maybe Rick needs to go, maybe not but factual information is essential in figuring that out. This article doesn't qualify.
  18. An F-body in it's natural habitat.

Fine assessment ,Evok. We might not need to let FOG off the leash! :AH-HA_wink:
  20. No, it's not. Calm yourself. Then go do some research and you'll see that what I'm telling you is the simple truth. GM, in fact, could not build a Camaro for any of the model years that the SSR existed - period. The two vehicles have no relation whatsoever to each other. The fate of the F-body Camaro was sealed long before the first sketch of the SSR was even drawn. As for the SSR being a bad product, you obviously have no basis for such a claim.
  21. You can nudge all you want,FOG - that well is dry. The press latched onto an exec's careless comment about the SSR "helping to fill the gap left by Camaro" or some such foolishness and ran with it. Unfortunately, this hit the internet and became the perceived truth - falsely. Too bad, as SSR didn't need that negativity in addition to its other handicaps. The SSR was planned as a 3 year only niche product (we actually got a bonus with the '06 or the '03 depending on how you look at it). It was built on the strength of huge positive reaction to the original showcar and would have happened even if Camaro had gone on past 2002. Additionally, SSR was not a high cost project for GM no huge facilities investment, small workforce, existing platform and much of the work outsourced to ASC. I have heard that it was actually profitable for GM to build - even with the sales numbers. It could not have been mass-produced even if the demand was there, it wasn't set up for that. The SSR, unlike the Blackwood, was hardly a disaster and they will be very collectible down the road. I'll probably own one at some point. I wish they had skipped the retractible hardtop and done it in a (much cheaper) fixed-roof version with the more potent powertrain from the get-go.
  22. You're way off my friend, SSR was never intended to be an F-car replacement. No need to hate one of the most unique vehicles GM has ever done on that account. I bought my F-body instead of the SSR I was considering for a few reasons. Price, auto only at intro., not enough power at intro., and some other things. I know I made the right decision, but would have ended up with a collectible either way. The SSR was planned from the start for a 3year run as a niche product - it did its job.
  23. Good news! Can't wait to see it.
  24. Wow! What a tame bunch! Myself, I rarely drink these days but I enjoy it when I do. Did most of my major drinking before it was legal for me to do so. :AH-HA_wink: I'm amazed at the decline in "partying" that has taken place over the last 2 decades. From high school through my twenties we all did some serious partying. Then it just sort of faded out of my life. I like to get a good buzz every once in a while and get good and drunk maybe once or twice a year. Months go by without a drop of alcohol though, and I never miss it. I think being drunk is like most things: always better when taken in small doses. You won't catch me buying cheap alcohol - I'd rather just not drink at all. And you'll never see me "stocking-up for the weekend". There has to be a reason for me to go buy alcohol. Some kind of event or celebration. I've seen too much of what alcoholism can do and that kept me from taking that road I think.
