  1. Blu, so funny. Wouldn't that be a great idea, have this car-boat pulling a house boat and they both float. The ultimate. Speaking of houses on wheels, check this out, a very early motorhome, based on a Ford:
  2. ....think catalogue.
  3. Hey thanks balthazar, flybrian, variance and others for some great automotive info on these interesting and sometimes strange vehicles. I am in complete awe of some of the people that dream up these things and actually produce them. I find it absolutely facinating. I love this stuff. The '67 Amphicar, these always intrigued me ever since I was a little kid when I first heard of them. They were designed and built in Germany from 1961-68. They operate on land and water. They can drive right out of the water onto the shore.
  4. I am a big fan of some of the orphan companies like American Motors and Studebaker. A descendant of Studebaker is the Avanti car company and this I believe was their latest. You guys are very good at figuring things out. Doesn't this car look like its based on the last Firebird....note the roof line and windshield area. I can't find much info on it. Apparantly the Avanti car company is up for sale? Avanti:
  5. Razor, just wonderful stuff. I don't know where I got the Olds bug, it came from earliest memory of having a sense that there was something special about an Oldsmobile. I can't define it really.
  6. A beautiful example of a '53. Did I say I love these cars? I love them!
  7. Razor, I just got goosebumps reading about your friends 88. Oh man I am so envious. Tell us every detail, pics the whole thing.
  8. Let's not forget the Checker of taxi fame. For many years they used the Chevy 350 engine. Here is a nice '81.
  9. I agree with you...the Trailblazer idea. I think sometimes when one is so used the original grill, when they make a change like this, it can look like a patch job. And of course, car fans like us notice every little detail :). I still like it though. Again, glad Chevy is inching away from the chrome bar thing.
  10. Well, I happen to like this vehicle but fake nuts and bolts trying to look rugged is pathetic on a Jeep or any vehicle for that matter.
  11. TurboRush, that Saab is so interesting. You almost never see Saabs done up like that. And speaking of unusual customs check this one out. Its a 53 Jaguar.
  12. That is a great Toronado. Remember those duplicate tailights at base of rear window?
  13. I believe the photos were taken illegally and I would suspect C&G wishes to maintain a good rapport with General Motors. I support that.
  14. Notice the unusual glass roof panels. Take a look at the vehicle behind the Commander, looks like assembled on the same line.
  15. I really like the SS...the front end looks great.
  16. "It wasn't about thinking outside the box," says chief designer Dan Renkert, "it was about creating a new box." Consistent with the bolted-together look, the big, blocky fender flares appear to be held on by quintets of large, proudly visible Allen-head screws. Note the word 'appear'. I'll bet they are faux allen-head screws. I remember when a special edition of the Jeep Liberty came out with those 'bolted' on fenders. I thought, hey cool, very elemental, brawny. So I pulled playfully on the fender, it gave way slightly!!...looked closer, they were phoney bolts!...could they be more lame?
  17. The 900 was not a rebadge but it was not a true Saab either. It was a shared development with other companies. I was making the point that Saab has not been making independent uniquely Saab cars in some time. It makes rebadging easier to swallow with this company.
  18. This is the most facinating rebadging of a car. And very early on. What rebadged car is this, and who built it? Hint: Will that be c.o.d?
  19. Haypops, no, sorry, just this one. And on this subject, if anyone has any pics of haulers with cars on them, post them....I want to get a collection going. It's some sort of fetish....as a kid I would see these on the highway and just become entranced with the new vehicles loaded on them. I get strangely aroused when I see a new car coming off a trailer ;)
  20. This '34 McQuay is way radical for the times. It must come from the airplane school of design. Dig the deep dash. Man, I thought the VW New Beetle's was deep, this beats it by a mile.
  21. The Camry doesn't even come close to this car. It's not in the same league. This car is light years ahead of that appliance for the road in every way.
  22. Congratulations!!.....and I see you are getting him on the right road with the car themed hat and shirt :) Another car guy in the making. Here's a baby shower cyber gift:
  23. ...or this '48 Davis three-wheeler. Don't you just love the ingenuity of some people.
  24. I thought it would be fun to have an ongoing thread hilighting unusual automobiles. Post some craziness. How about this zany 'Ferrari':
  25. I love that '55 98 and that ad. It says everything is right with the world. So much is written about the Chevys and Pontiacs of the era but the Oldsmobiles are wonderful. One day I want one of these '55 98 convertibles in my garage. I'm crazy about the 57s as well.
