Massachusetts proposes taxing by miles driven
has technology not improved how durable roads are? so many taxes are percentages, why not the gas tax? DC has a gas tax, states (typically have gas taxes, localities have gas taxes... and most of the time dc blackmails states for funding...

moving multi-sockets to PCIE cards?
dfelt, now imagine that w/o power connector, side chip(south bridge?) and laptop ram.
-
moving multi-sockets to PCIE cards?
the 'end' of 2+ sockets on 1 mobo. more heterogeneous computing power in a smaller box. the 'cards' would be powered with the 75w spec that pcie can power.

moving multi-sockets to PCIE cards?
I remember ~10 years ago talk of cpus being moved to add-on cards... so i was just thinking... IF, drivers get alot better- AMD has good GPU tech in their APU's and the next gen apus should have DDR4 support, ~65W tdp's and are SOC's what do you think of the idea being able to put several cards of an APU with ddr4 as crossfired gpus? the draw backs i'd see are 1.price 2.i doubt the main apu will have enough pcie lanes to support more than 1 or 2 of these unless ---- they could supplement each one added to move the data around.

think i might go by a local place and look at one. just curious what you know about any problem areas i should look for or even if it's worth it? the place has no more than a basic website, so right now i don't know mileage and what they're asking. prolly call first over lunch. i did KBB it in good condition and 100k miles and fair price could be $~5.5k. thanks in advance for feedback. it's black exterior.

monte's spilling coolant
so with 190K+ Monte's leaking coolant. the pump is about 10 years old with 60K+ miles. seems to only leak after it's warmed up some (pressure in the block? maybe loosing a quart over a week and 150 miles driven, 50 of that is very off and on. the leak is on the front of the engine... where the drips come from, been leaking slowly since late dec. prolly need to check it after 30 mins (after being driven) or so to see if there is an obvious stream. given this, do you think the culprit could be the water pump? what would you recommend i look for? also taking suggestions for cars to replace it with. ... what i'd look for, similar or better gas milage, either a radio that can be esily replaced, or one with bluetooth installed. decent space for clothes and bags in the back seat for a few days on a trip.sometimes i use my monte's truck to transport my bike, but that could be solved with a bike rack.

Mitsubishi News: Mitsubishi Tells Its Dealers New Products Are On The Way
Drew, always thought the Galant looked like a grand prix of it's time.. not in a bad way, but...yeah mid/fullsize entry would be good. question is is styling the only way they could stand out? the Eclipse i didn't like the last gen... any ideas where you'd go with it? Dfelt, i agree. but have to do that w/o pricing themselves out of cars that people would cross-shop with them.

Amd Kaveri/new gadgets..
And Coinye West.. $h!coin and variations have gotten a lot of press the last couple of years, but I'm skeptical of any 'currency' that isn't backed by (guns). fixed that last part.

Amd Kaveri/new gadgets..
well, i'll just say that unlikely since AMD is basically a node behind. that is an increasing % difference as time continues. do you think the openCL and other "heterogeneous" computing advances pushed by AMD and that consortium will change the 'landscape' drastically in a few more iterations? did see a post elsewhere that the transistor density for AMD's Kaveri is higher than haswell's. that will play a part in your speed and power critique.

Amd Kaveri/new gadgets..
i guess you'll have to wait for benchies...? but what other chip can play battelfield 4 at 1080 with a ~30fps average? i just like the competition...and more so since it seems to be slowly diverging the 'core user' from the enthusiast....?

Amd Kaveri/new gadgets..
Anyone looking forward to CES '14/release of Kaveri chips from mainstream pc makers? (oem in feb, i think?) i'm still using the phenom 2 x6 1100t.... it's just over powered for what i do. though i might just make a smaller 'box' with a kaveri in it and use it for the day to day things till i'd move all my games/settings over. looking forward to any new gadgets?

Pushrods = better fuel economy
side note Dwight et al, the ford 5.0L doesn't have DI., the eco boost 3.5L does. for a better comparo of valve actuation....

Pushrods = better fuel economy
for 'smaller' vehicles it'd be like comparing the 4.3L v6 to a 3.5L dohc (or sohc) v6. or his theoretical ohv 3.6L v6 with ~280hp to a 2.2-2.5L I4 Turbo. oh how i do kinda wish for a resurgence of wagons that could use engines like these for the hard working grocery getter/smaller toy pulling.
