Oh you'll see plenty of traction, enough to pull this pathetic excuse for a "truck" (it's really a cardboard cutout of a truck) backwards. Let's hook 'em together with a chain and see who yanks who! The Ridgeline is the ugliest "truck" on the road, inside and out, it has a transverse engine, FWD biased driveline that is totally wrong-o. It has piss-poor fuel economy for what it is, and that spare in the trunk? STOOPID! You want to bolt it upright in the bed? Then it's even more worthless for hauling. It's also been bashed in the press for the harsh ride and blind spots because of the rear pillars and high bed sides. What is wrong with the way a Silverado, F-150 or Ram are put together? A separate bed makes the vehicle soo much more versatile... how in the hell could anyone put a work box or stake bed on a unitized playtoy like a Ridgeline? American trucks are made for work, and they are also extremely civilised if the buyer chooses. There is no more versatile platform on the road than an American fullsize pickup truck. Period. :P

True dat. Maybe there is no harm in an automaker capitalizing on a trend while keeping development costs to a minimum, especially when the bubble could burst at any time. But now everyone's moving to unibody crossover-style SUVs. Will the production version of Meta One replace the Mountaineer? I can't wait to see the Lambdas, although I doubt I'll ever be in the market for such a vehicle.

I think they were based on the Omni/Horizon, not the K-car. I saw one on a Sunday about a month ago while lot lurking at a Mazda dealership. It belonged to another lurker, and seemed an odd juxtaposition.

On the other hand, it was a response to Mercury's Mountaineer, another redundant SUV.

I slept in until after 7 this morning, and when I got up to look outside... boom, reality hit. We have a very thick frost this a.m., and Thanksgiving is coming up next week. I see a lot of LaCrosses in my town. I really like what they've done with the DTS, it's very hot looking in black with Performance Package. I'm still waiting to see a new Monte Carlo on the lots, so I can't judge on that one yet. The new Jetta is too expensive, and so is the Passat. I hope they price the Golf V and GTI correctly, or VWOA is in very serious trouble. I think the car that will tank is the Mazda 5. It was barely on the lots for sale when the big fire "stop sell" axe came down. Now they'll have to relaunch the thing... that's too much momentum lost, imo.

I think I'd revive the '78-'81 Malibu coupe on a modern RWD platform and sell it for $23-$26k, with a 350 horse LS series V8 and a six speed manual. It would have an updated interior, a nice sounding stereo, and... a bench seat with supportive contouring for two people. It'd have a bigger ring gear than a stock G-body. It would also need a slightly lower suspension, with swaybars and four wheel discs cuz I like to turn, stop and GO!

That's a very good review. I like the new Monte Carlo. After reading this, maybe it'll really be livable with FWD, as I was concerned about torque steer. Another plus: this is the quickest and fastest Chevrolet Monte Carlo ever built. I just hope this isn't another "get it right and kill it" story from GM... that would be a shame.

Blackviper, one problem is, we don't know each other well enough for me to form a judgment. Sure, we come here every day to talk about one major common interest, but otherwise, I don't trust the internet to give a full picture of myself or anyone else. These words we type cannot possibly convey the true feeling behind them. I use this place to feel part of a community, and I appreciate and care for the group, but frankly it's not a substitute for realtime interaction. A person needs people to find his or her place in the world. Real people, not internet forum people. We can only help you to a small extent, in my opinion. The people who can do something meaningful for you live and breathe right there where you are. A person at your stage in life is going through a hell of a transition, from a kid to an adult. This is a tense time between you and your parents because you are starting to pull away from their shadow a bit, a necessary part of becoming an adult. But in most cases they are still best equipped to help you. You still need parenting, Viper. Let your mother parent you, and let your father be himself but hold onto them both. You do need them. A car is part of that transition, to be sure, and maybe it's a symbol of freedom, but it can also be used as a means of escape, which may not be entirely good right now. School, Viper, school. You need school. Is there a guidance counselor at your school that you might be able to meet with who can help you get back on track? Education is so very important to augment your natural abilities. You have a talent, Cory, and you should cherish and nurture that talent. The best way to do that is to be in an environment where you can interact with other people who share that. I believe in you as much as an internet friend can, but you need to believe in yourself and you need your parents to help you. Don't shut them out, please. You may not think so right now at this moment, but they do know you best.

I hope to God we never see any more tacky Pontiacs. Solstice and G6 are proof that romance is back at Pontiac, they are authentic links to the glory days of the 60's, when tack-ons weren't acceptable. Pontiac needs to stay the course with their future products. New Firebird or GTO and RWD sedan need to be clean, substantial, modern, romantic, athletic, and true to Pontiac roots. They were a very relevant brand once... G6 and Solstice are proof they can still deliver compelling design.
