Last time I was at the All GM Nats in carlisle ther were two 64/65 Chevelle 2-door wagons. One perfect and one a basket case.

Maybe, but they are well down on the list as legally modifying them is tougher.

In 1970 I think you could get a 455 in just about any Buick. A Vista Cruiser would be ok as well or a Caprice of the same vintage. The Holy Grail for me would be the right Chevelle wagon - but it has to be the right one as I'm really picky with Chevelles.

A 540i wagon with the sport package would be very cool - but pricey. I would really love to find an old survivor from the 60's or 70's. and any LT1 B-body wagon without woodgrain is a possible choice.

I am always looking even when I have no intention of buying anything. I'm going to enjoy looking knowing I'll be able to buy-in cash. I can have just as much fun with a car that costs $1,500 - $10,000 as one that cost 30k or more.

This is a real possibility. It would have to be a low mileage car without that nasty woodgrain.

No, not out of line at all. The short answer is that I'm doing it for a host of personal reasons: some financial, some not, some immediate, some future concerns. I just have this strong feeling that being debt free with some cash on hand will be important in the near future.

... that once the toys are gone I want an interesting wagon right away. Has to be clean and V8 powered and RWD. A/C is also a must and it has to have some sort of "cool factor" going for it. I have been all over the web in the last few hours and there isn't much out there right now. So, keep your eyes open - I'm looking for some help and all leads are appreciated.

It's all a matter of perspective really, I still think of Chevelles and Monte carlos as midsizers(they were in their time). I never thought of the 4th gen F-bodies as too big and I think of my 2004 GTO as smallish. The size of the GTO (and other Commodore-based cars) is just about perfect. Anything smaller just doesn't really do it for me. Another example would be the Pre-Bangle BMW 3 and 5 series, they were just about perfect sizewise. On the other hand, the B-bodies were a bit big for my taste though I do like them. I can deal with a car that's just a bit bigger than I like,but not one that's smaller(with rare exceptions).

Not only do I need a large vehicle (truck) to make my living, I prefer larger, more powerful vehicles in general. If it doesn't offer a V8, i'm not likely to give it a second glance. While I can appreciate well executed small cars like the Solstice and the Mini, I'm not likely to ever choose one. Additionally, most small cars are FWD and that completely disqualifies them from consideration for me.

I'm thinking this one over, but I think I can narrow it down to just one night.

If you can get a pic of the cowl plate or type a copy of it, I can decode that info. for you.

El Camino is the perpetual "maybe". When and if there is a new one, it "might" be built here. GM has been looking this over repeatedly since '95 and earlier, they just haven't ever pulled the trigger. But I still have hope.

You should be able to atleast get the original color codes and interior codes from the cowl plate. The interior codes are 3 digit beginning with a 7. The paint code is a single letter. The top code is a single digit #. For anything else you need a build sheet for the most part - check under the seats between the backing of the cushions and the metal springs/seatframe. Don't be surprised if you can't find one.

Many,many, of the LSx engines do this. It shouldn't be there,true, but seems to have NO effect on longevity or any other important aspect of engine performance. It is annoying and GM needs to be sure something like this doesn't happen ever again, but it really is just a noise.
