Let me quote this part to throw a question out there: Whether or not the V8 becomes a specialty application, should Cadillac develop a V12 or V16, or should they stick to the V8 layout?
  2. It's good that he was there: his horizons have surely broadened to different ways of doing things and surely GMNA will benefit from that.
  3. I think the idea I stated above was to go after the market for expressive design with one single car: coupe-like design in a large mid-size or full-size 4-door format. That could take the place of GTO + Grand Prix + Bonneville and I have to say it again, with a unique offering at that proice point. In short, it would be replacing the 3 models you mentioned for 1 "stand-out-from-the-crowd" car (in fact, it would be Pontiac's halo car). And now, back to reality Let's hope this move can be pushed through quickly and become reality, assuming there's a way to make a solid business case for it...
  4. I hope this shift to RWD moves forward. I remeber (@ AH-HA's website) someone commenting on a design proposal for the next GTO as a 4-door coupe (a CLS-like car). Maybe Pontiac could use it for the "more expensive than the Grand Prix" model, call it the GTO, and have a really unique entry at that price range!
  5. I found this interesting.

Just to complement your post re diesels, here are the numbers for the BMW 535d: 272 horsepower @ 4000 RPM and 560Nm of torque @ 2000RPM. Since those are DIN numbers, here are the Euro-spec numbers for the base Corvette: 400hp and 546Nm of torque. BTW, the 535d has a 3 liter diesel engine, half the size of the Corvette's engine.
  7. I'm not an engineer, so I'd like to ask you what would be the technical advantages/disadvantages of pairing 2 Ecotec blocks vs. changing the OHV engines to OHC.
  8. Interesting thought! I believe that, with the BLS coming online and with a 2nd-gen BLS possibly making it to the US, the CTS will have to be pushed upmarket, and the next STS (your DTS / DTS-L) will have to become the 7-series / S-Class / A8 competitor.

Well, I love both of them too, although I've never driven a V8 car. Saw a blue Corvette, just like the one on your sig (except for the Euro-lights), a few months back. It's a car

Have you ever driven turbodiesel engines? Some put out really great torque numbers, and more interestingly, they don't have a 'torque peak', but a 'torque plateau', a range of say 1000 RPM with maximum torque available. So there may be alternatives for the mass market (the one that has tended to look for the appliance-like auto), which I believe was evok's main point. EDIT - I have to say the idea of DOD V8s is appealing: you get power when you need it, and fuel economy when you need it. But won't very advanced turbo-/supercharging do the same? Look at VW: they got 170bhp out of a 1.4L gasoline engine by combining superchargind and turbocharging.

If the say a V6 architecture is cheapest to develop and produce (which I guess it is, although my guess is not an educated one) and the easiest to package, AND is able provide the same level of power, refinement and whatever other characeristics people value (think turbodiesel engines that can have more torque than bigger gas engines), we could very well see V8s becoming what V12s have become: specialty applications. Also, I found the comment on the Lexus approach to hybrids very interesting, because when I was reading about the hybrid LS I got convinved that Lexus is presenting 'hybrid' in the direction of an image car in the same sense a BMW or Ferrari present their V12 offerings.
  12. ZL-1 replied to andy82471's topic in General Motors
Aha, so the report is useless with regard to that.

I'm shocked by the difference in the Production Time per Vehicle data.
  14. Simple: buyers have a choice of BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and Lexus IS. No Cadillacs, which is a major flaw in Cadillac's product planning IMO.
  15. LHD with a chrome bar on the grille probably means those are Chevrolet Lumina/Omega. It seems to carry the Torana concept's syling theme. Can't wait for the official pics to be released!
  16. Cadillac, Cadillac, Cadillac

Saw 2 of these with Munich plates driving around Lisboa last week. The passegner side was occupied by people with laptops. Much better live than in photography.
  18. Will there be a DI version of the 2.8L V6?
  19. ZL-1 replied to bostonspider's topic in SAAB / NEVS
Yeah, I sure hope so. Could that car be a hatchback or a liftback, or am I'm still thinking "Saab 900" too much?
  20. It would be more useful in the CTS, SRX and STS.
  21. ZL-1 replied to 76ChevyTrucker's topic in The Lounge
    Congrats!
  22. I think those buyers should go be catered by Buick, as Cadillac has shifted to (or is trying to shift to) a more aggressive posture.
  23. Tool seems to have heavy occult influences (Crowley is mentioned a lot in toolband.com). Lateralus seems to have some alchemic and masonic influences: the "cornerstone" and "let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold" references in the song "the Grudge", for example. Tool rocks!
  24. I saw the drawing and didn't click on the link So, an upgraded SC Northstar. I hope it's rated @ or above 500hp. I'd like to see manuals in all V-series Cadillacs too. Like what Alpina does to BMW models?
  25. Maybe this is the perfect way to introduce an interior redesign
