2010 Buick LaCrosse Spied, Inside and Out
Oldsmoboi, let's just hope "Lacrosse" isn't part of the name.

So the wife has narrowed her choices down...
The Edge's exterior design has all the panache of a refrigerator, and the Vue has it beat in terms of interior appointments as well IMO.

new car...
The idea of living on the beach as a college student is what attracted me to the Fairfield area when I was applying to schools. It's a really nice place to be, especially now that spring is approaching.

intrigued, I just noticed you're from Westport, CT. I'm a town over at Fairfield University. My hometown is Eastchester, NY. I'll keep an eye out for you as I'm in the same area.

new car...
My family has owned 2 E46s (like the 330xi you're looking at). My sister's '06 325i has just under 20k, and has been dead reliable thus far. My mom had an '03 325i that served us well for 45k. A good friend of mine had an '00 323i that he recently sold with 145k on it. Nothing but routine maintenence (oil changes, brake pads, etc.) as far as I know. Another friend of mine has an '02 540i with 80k and has had no problems with it. I'd try to go certified, but in my experience, BMW reliability has never been an issue. E46s are fun cars, moreso than anything on your list aside from maybe the CTS. I understand that you prefer GM/domestic, but on a used car purchase, it really makes no difference. RWD, near-perfect weight distribution, balanced handling, and great steering and brake feel are hard to argue with. Either way, good luck with your decision.

Ragin'
I'm in the minority, but getting bent out of shape over something like this isn't worth it to me. Bad drivers are a fact of life. Flipping out every time I cross paths with one just seems like a waste of energy.

I can't tell from the pictures, but I'm assuming you did without the panoramic roof this time around?

Geely GT Concept
Wow. I'd like to see more angles, but from here it looks like something Fisker might produce. Not to mention something that would look great in Buick showrooms. Something about the front end looks a little bulky, but I'm definitely impressed so far.

Kia Koup Concept (NYIAS)
From the rear, this looks like the RSX replacement that never was. Even the greenhouse and C-pillar say 'Acura' in a TL kind of way.

Low-mileage is always a plus. But do you really want a Lumina? Like, seriously. Think about it.

C&G @ NYIAS: Lunch With Buick
I never thought I would say this, but next to the Riviera (and after four years of sitting around), the Velite has definitely lost something. Until recently, I had a strange glimmer of hope that the Velite would become a reality someday. Now it just looks like Buick missed that boat and is left with a four year old concept car to show for it. Oh well. Bring on something Riviera-derived before the same thing happens to it.

Pontiac lets Solstice Targa image slip
An image of the upcoming Solstice Targa, shown in red alongside the G8 sport truck, surfaced on Pontiac's website earlier today. The image, which includes the text, "SEE THE CARS UNVEILED AT THE NEW YORK AUTO SHOW," has since been removed.

Dodge Nitro SRT8?!
It looks to me like one of the eleven people that bought the Nitro decided to tack on SRT-8 badges. There is little else to suggest this is actually a Nitro SRT-8 mule.

Automotive Death Watch
Mitsubishi's lineup is becoming increasingly focused, and I'd be sad to see them go at this point. The Lancer and Outlander are what they ought to be (I'd take a Lancer over just about any other offering in the segment), and the Evo is proof of what the brand is capable of. The Lancer Sportback looks great and will add meat to the Lancer line. Mitsu has a solid design direction going with the Lancer and Outlander, and it's only a matter of time until it permeates the rest of the lineup. The current Galant is nearing the end of its life cycle, and I'm intersted to see what they have in store for the next-generation. As for the Eclipse, I'd like to a next-generation based on the Lancer's platform. A trimmer, more focused coupe with less-goofy styling would shake the "secretary's car" image the Eclipse has picked up. The Concept-RA looks promising in this respect and is likely a good indication of the next Eclipse. Overall, I'd venture to say that Mitsu's image is more focused than Pontiac's. Aside from the few standouts like the G8, Pontiac's lineup is still composed of cars that are either outclassed (G6) or shamlessly rebadged (G5, Torrent).

Buick may add a car below the LaCrosse
Look where big, comfortable, and soft got Buick. I never said it had to ride like a 3-series, but the days of floaty cars on ancient platforms are over. A small Buick shouldn't ride like a Roadmaster. End of story.

Buick may add a car below the LaCrosse
If GM serves up a mildly differentiated economy car with portholes and a Buick-style grille, it would fail to attract younger, more affluent buyers and would do nothing in terms of boosting the brand's image (which is exactly what a smaller Buick should be charged with doing). GM has to work on associating a sense of prestige with Buick. That means NO plastic wheel covers, bench-seating, 4-speed transmissions, floaty suspension setups, etc., and much more in the way of premium features. I'd even venture to say that Buick should do away with cloth seating. Take a look at the Acura TSX for an idea of what I have in mind. Everything, aside from navigation, is standard. While I'd love to see a small RWD Buick, FWD is acceptable as long as it's tuned right and wrapped in seductive sheetmetal. It would have to be a dynamic package with the features, content, and performance expected from a premium marque. A smaller Buick would have to be bold enough to shock people in order to work. If GM can accomplish this, I'm all for it.
